Benthowave manufactures low noise embedded voltage amplifiers (fixed gain, programmable gain and variable gain) with built-in filters for piezoelectric devices for uses in hydrophones, receiving array, echo sounding system and ultrasound instrumentation, whose gain and filter bandwidth can be customized. Benthowave preamplifiers cover the frequency range from 0.1 Hz to 30 MHz and drive long cable up to 1000m.

Technical notes
1. The cable has adverse effects on the signal quality in high frequency range. The longer the cable is, the worse the adverse effects is. If you use long cable in your project, you may specify customized output impedance of BII's preamplifiers to match cable impedance and the DAQ input impedance, for example, customized 50 ohms output impedance of BII preamplifier for 50 ohms RG58 coax of DAQ system.
2. How to choose preamplifier? If frequency of interest covers low frequency range up to 10kHz, a preamplifier with low current noise should be used. If frequency of interest only cover high frequency range greater than 10kHz, a preamplifier with low voltage noise should be used.

Technical Note

Amplitude shading of a receiving array is a method through which the receiving responses of array elements are tuned to provide the most desirable directional pattern for a particular application. The array can be shaded to have a desirable beam width and response at central lobe, and suppressed responses at sidelobes, or vise versa.

Benthowave's preamplifiers have the property of tuning gain easily, which makes them be the best candidates for use in array amplitude shading.
